Community is the backbone of Assemblyman Antwan McClellan’s passion in serving others and becoming a public servant. As Helen Keller once said, “Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much.” The word together has held strong throughout the Assemblyman’s life.

As a lifelong resident of Ocean City and graduate of Ocean City High School, Assemblyman McClellan had his share of boardwalk summer jobs, including delivering newspapers, washing the dishes at a local restaurant, and operating the rides at Wonderland Pier.

Growing up, Assemblyman McClellan was inspired by local leaders such as Rich Tolson, Pastor John T Winters, and Mike Allegretto Sr who always placed the community and it’s children first. It was through their community togetherness that Assemblyman McClellan saw the impacts on what a role model can do for children.

As a strong advocate for children, Assemblyman McClellan used his time on the Ocean City School Board to expand opportunities for students and use resourceful methods to increase attendance from other districts. In addition, Assemblyman McClellan volunteered as a basketball coach for 7th & 8th grade girls and coach for the Field of Dreams program in South Jersey.

During his time on Ocean City Council (2012), Assemblyman McClellan fought to provide housing to seniors that were left without homes after SuperStorm Sandy. Working with the City’s Administration, City Council and Biscayne Suites Hotel and Watson Regency Suites, Assemblyman McClellan was able to secure rooms for families in the housing authority that were impacted by Sandy. In addition, he collaborated with the Ocean City Housing Authority and local contractors to repair storm damaged homes.

Currently, McClellan serves as the Confidential Assistant/Personnel Director/Public Information Officer in the Cape May County Sheriff's Department. In this role, he has dedicated his time to ensuring the families of Cape May County are safe and protected. Including, advocating for. Working with the Sheriff’s Association, Chiefs Association and Prosecutors Office, Assemblyman McClellan has formed a task force to discuss the efficiencies needed in Civil Service and how to increase minority communities participating in the Civil Service tests.

In January 2020, Assemblyman McClellan was sworn into the New Jersey General Assembly. He serves on Assembly Appropriations, Homeland Security and State Preparedness, Tourism, Gaming and the Arts Committees.

The Assemblyman is a member of the New Jersey Legislative Black Caucus where he has spearheaded the New Jersey Black Heritage Trail, which highlights historical locations such as Cape May City’s very own Harriet Tubman Museum.

Relying back on the legacies left by community leaders before him, Assemblyman has worked to bring South Jersey together by creating Cumberland-Cape United which is a group of Pastors and Community Leaders dedicated to encouraging and guiding our children.

To ensure the public safety of his community, Assemblyman spearheaded the “Take Your Best Shot” program which is helping Black Americans get vaccinated through church community groups.

Assemblyman McClellan has been proud to serve the residents of the First Legislative District and looks forward to continuing to represent South Jersey.
